Course Description

This is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist. Entry onto this course requires previous attainment of a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy or alternatively a successful skills test and interview. This course includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty massage therapist including, units covering the following: providing body massage, health and safety, anatomy and physiology and client care. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide relaxing massage treatments using classical Swedish massage movements. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

Entry Requirements

All candidates will need to demonstrate good levels of spoken and written English skills (level 2). All candidates undergo an initial assessment of these skills followed by an interview.

Method of Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of ways including:

  • Practical observation/assessments

  • Online exams

  • Written assignments You will keep a portfolio of evidence of all the work you do for external moderation.

Progression

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist. Career opportunities as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including: - Working in commercial beauty salons - Working in a destination and day spas - Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Notes

This course will be run over 2½ days (Weds - Thurs - Fri) for 9 weeks between April 2017 and June 2017. Assessment and interview days will take place from February 2017. All applicants will need to apply for an advanced learning loan to cover the course fees. Students may also be eligible for a residential bursary to cover travel, childcare, accommodation and food.
