Course Description

The massage therapy course covers both practice and theory, including anatomy and physiology, of the following:

  • Body Massage

  • Stone Therapy Massage

  • Indian Head Massage

  • Pre-blended Aromatherapy massage

  • Health & Safety

  • Client care and communication

  • Personal Health & Wellbeing

  • Origin of massage

This course requires home study, timely completion of assignments and external multiple choice exams. Practical assessments are carried out on a continuous basis on external paying clients. You will also keep a portfolio which will be verified externally. You should be prepared to experience treatments as part of your learning.

Professionalism is very important. You will be required to wear a uniform at ALL times during your course. This consists of a therapist's tunic and black trousers (no jeans, jogging bottoms or leggings). You will need black flat comfortable closed in shoes (no trainers). You will have your hair tied back. The only jewelry allowed will be a wedding band and small stud earrings. You will be required to achieve 90% attendance to complete the course.

Entry Requirements

All candidates will need to demonstrate good levels of spoken and written English skills (level 2). All candidates undergo an initial assessment of these skills followed by an interview.

Method of Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of ways including:

  • Practical observation/assessments

  • Written assessment papers

  • Written assignments You will keep a portfolio of evidence of all the work you do for external moderation.


On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • gain employment in a range of salons and spas, cruise ships

  • become self-employed or run your own business

  • progress on to other courses, such as Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Sports Massage or Beauty Therapy courses


This course will be run over 17 weekends and 3 study weeks (in school holiday periods) between October 2016 and June 2017. Assessment and interview days will take place from April 2016. There will also be an introductory weekend in September 2016 if you would like to find out if this is the right course for you. Students over 19 will be able to apply for an advanced learning loan to cover the course fees. Students may also be eligible for a residential bursary to cover travel, childcare, accommodation and food.

The Information Form only needs to be completed once each academic year, if you have not completed one for this year, you will need to complete this also.
